During Tyson's first deployment to Iraq in 2006 — in support of the CASEVAC mission — a mortar landed a couple of feet away, causing shrapnel damage for which he received his Purple Heart Medal. With the help of the Navy Corpsmen and fellow Marines, he finished that deployment and returned to Iraq in 2009 for his final deployment.
Since leaving the Marine Corps in late 2012 as a Staff Sergeant, Tyson moved home to the Texas Panhandle and currently lives with his wife and four kids in Texas.
Tyson served as a volunteer fishing and survival guide for various veteran non-profits before founding Fireside Outdoors Inc. Besides enjoying the outdoors, Tyson coaches youth baseball and plays ice hockey in the Texas Panhandle.
